Byamee is a steel cutter professionally and impeccably built in 1978 in Sydney. She weighs
in at about 15 tons so we won't be wining any races but we will demolish anything that stands in our way! She is a one
off design fitted out to a very high standard in real wood, I think its teak but not quite sure. We bought her off
a retired couple who spent 5 years sailing her around Australia. They looked after her very well and made many great
improvements. Not initially looking for a steel boat we were attracted to her because she had everything on board ready to
go right down to the cups and saucers, all the equipment was good quality and everything was working and of course the price
was right.
For the sailors and technically minded here are a few specs. Lenght 12m (40 foot) Breadth 3.66m Net tonnage 21.20 tons Year of completion 1978 Material 5mm steel Engine Wortham Blake Fisherboy BMC 60 hp.
2700 hrs since rebuild Equipment on board Radar Chartplotter AIS Coursemaster auto pilot Cape Horn windvane (a beautiful thing) B&G instruments all interphased VHF,27 MEG,AND HF RADIO with Pactor Wind turbine and solar panels Honda generator with Xantrax 40 amp charger Engine driven eutectic fridge 12v
Frigaboat fridge and a multitude of other pieces of equipment which we need to keep in good working order
Byamee has a few
special characteristics that we love. The pilot house means we can scan the coastline from downstairs which is great when
you are on watch and in the galley making a cup of tea. The enormous flat deck is more akin to something you would find
on a 50 foot boat, great for putting out the deckchairs and having a sundowner (sundowner is what yachties call having a drink
before, during and after the sun goes down). Oh yes the yachties love there drinkies, we should fit in just fine. But above
all Byamee is solid, the more time I spend on her the more amazed I’m at the engineering and workmanship that went into
her she is over 30 years old but looks half her age.
