It has long been a dream of mine to sail a boat around the world, to visit those exotic places off the beaten track. The thought of the wind driving the boat to distant shores and uninhabited islands, being welcomed by the sound of dolphins diving beneath the boat, and the self sufficient lifestyle appealed to me. Guess it would to most people come to think of it. Being lucky enough to be able to realise such a dream is one thing, to be able to share the experience with my wife and young daughter means I'm truly fortunate. Our journey will take us up the east coast of Australia, across the Gulf of Carpentaria to Darwin. From there we will plan and provision to cross the Indian Ocean via Direction Island and the beautiful uninhabited Chagos Islands our goal to reach Cape Town by Oct 2010. We will then cross the Atlantic via St Helena to the Caribbean. From there we will transit the Panama Canal and slowly head back to Oz via the South Pacific. This is a rough plan which will be influenced by many factors including weather, trade winds, cyclone seasons, how our shares are trading and whether we are enjoying ourselves. We estimate our circumnavigation to take us 4 to 5 years. This website is mainly intended for family, friends and for our daughter who's young age will mean that she will remember little of this adventure. It is also for anyone who thinks that one day they may like to do the same. It will not be a day by day account of our lives at sea or in port. What we do while we are at a marina waiting for the wind to change in our favour is only sometimes interesting. It will be all the interesting stuff, catching big fish, close encounters, things that go really wrong things that go really right, the magical moments and the scary ones (hopefully not too many of those). The best thing about any website is that you can skip over the bits that don't interest.
